I had a chat with the surgeon's nurse today. Nothing big, she just wanted to make sure I was good to go with the prep instructions and knew when I was supposed to show up at the hospital. The surgeon gets to go on vacation until the 4th, which is why she called this week.

Time is running out, man. Today is the 23rd. 14 days until surgery. Two weeks. It's the most bizzare thing that I won't have a rectum or an anus (and a little bit of colon) in two weeks. In two weeks I'll be crapping into a bag. Well, probably a bit longer because it might take a day or two for my guts to start working again. But still. What the heck?? If you had told me ten years ago that this would happen when I was 32, I would have been in disbelief. I'm in disbelief right now.

I'm not dwelling on it too much now though. I don't have time! We're trying to get ready for Christmas, hoping we can leave Christmas morning as planned but the weather looks dicey. I'm also trying to get some cleaning done around the house, my pre-surgery nesting.

Deep breaths, life is going to go on.

  1. I really hope you can leave too!!! Want to see all of you. I just finished wrapping presents and am listening to El Divo and having a really nice Vodka 7. Probably should go to bed soon, but I plan on sleeping in. And Greg is making breakfast tomorrow. Love you all... Patti

  2. Your honesty and positive attitude are inspirational to me. It must be hard to wrap yourself around the fact that you are losing parts of your body in a couple weeks. That might be the hardest part in all this. I really can't imagine, and you are handling it with such grace. I will be thinking about you during the holidays. Even more so because I made your awesome choc cherry cookies today and my non-vegan family devoured them. Let me know if I can be of any help to you. I would love the opportunity.
    Merry Christmas,
    Jehan
