A Passing

Sheri Lorraine Jahner, age 35, passed away the foggy morning of November 5th, 2012 at her home in Dallas, Texas after a hard fought battle with cancer.  She was the loving daughter of Larry and Julie (Alwin) Wesson, and was born in Caribou, Maine.  Sheri attended college at UW-River Falls where she received a degree in teaching and continued on to teach and make friends at a charter school in Saint Paul, Minnesota.  Sheri met the love of her life, Eric Jahner, in 1999 while working part-time to pay for college at Arby’s in Hudson, Wisconsin, and they were married in 2001 in Grand Marais, Minnesota on the shores of Lake Superior.

Her greatest passion was her children whom she began sewing for when they were still in diapers.  Over the years she graduated to making shirts and dresses while she gave Reese and Eli a home school education.  She longed to explore the globe and, after extensive research of the Khmer people, accomplished her dream travel destination of Cambodia in March of 2012.

Sheri began her blog, I’m Sorry for Cursing, as a young female with rectal cancer with the intent that it assist others and detailed her journey battling the disease.  Sheri is survived by her husband Eric; her children Reese and Eli; her parents Larry and Julie; her sister Amanda; her father and mother in-law Mike and Pat; her sisters-in-law Terri, Sarah and Katie.  She is further survived by countless friends and other relatives that have helped her physically, emotionally and spiritually through her battle with cancer.

Sheri has requested her ashes be scattered in the Dry Tortugas National Park outside of Key West, Florida.  A celebration of life is will be scheduled for March, 2013 in Dallas, Texas.

  25. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. I have no words at the moment, only many tears, especially as I look at my own child happily running around the house and think of Reese and Eli who will be missing their mother immensely. I think of you too, Eric, and this difficult yet faith-filled journey you have been on. I pray for peace and healing and comfort in the many long days and months to come and into the future.

Prayers and love from someone who has never met any of you, but who has known and loved Sheri through our association online.

  28. Sheri is dancing in Heaven completely healed. We grieve not for her but for those she has left behind. But what comfort to know, that we that are believers in Jesus Christ will again see her one day. Prayers in the days, weeks, and months ahead for Eric, Reese, Eli and the whole family as they learn to go on and live their lives without this amazing woman that they loved. Eric I pray you will feel peace and comfort that can only come in knowing where she is and that you will see her again one day.

  34. Words are not enough to comfort at a time like this. It is beyond our comprehension that a life so young, so essential to those around her could be lost. Sherri has touched more hearts in her 35 years than we can even understand. I pray for peace for the family, and I praise God that she is now pain free.

  38. I am very saddened to hear of your loss. I met Sheri years ago at Mom and Pop Place Cafe where she inspired me to try to be as patient, kind and loving as she was. I always looked up to her and sought her advice on many subjects. Though we were never close friends, I can truly say that she has been one of the most influential people in my life. I mourn her passing with a very heavy heart and know that words can never truly express the pain and loss that must be felt by you and your children. My thoughts are with you and I hope that you may find peace. Everyone who was touched by Sheri is truly blessed and the world is definitely a better place because of this amazing and beautiful woman.

  50. Words escape me. I've been following Sheri's blog which I found through another LLL Leader. Sheri's vibrancy is such a shining star, it is hard to believe it is gone from this earth. May her light and love live on through you, Eric, and in her children. Her posts here were full of gratitude for the love she felt from her family and that is an amazing thing. She was loved completely.

  51. My friend, James, had this to say about Sheri. I loved it.

Sheri’s life and death serves as an example for us all. With steadfast faith, she lived with the assurance that God is in control. She died with that same unwavering faith. Her life was a declaration of Job’s words, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him.”

Sheri can now join hands with the Apostle Paul and say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day.”

My heart goes out to you, Eric and Reese and Eli. I'm glad that her pain is over and she is at peace, but I know the days ahead will be so hard for you. May you find comfort in each other and her love which still and always will surround you. She was an amazing woman, I'm blessed to have known her.
It was a bag of fabric scraps she passed onto my daughter that insprired a deep passion for sewing. And that is one very small example of how she will, through all the lives she touched, continue to be with us. Her passion for her children has been an inspiration to me and will be my guide moving forward. I'll think of her every spring when the pelicans come back to Lake Winnebago. It was a sight we both loved.
    With a heavy, heavy heart,
    Sara & family

  56. I'm so sad to know I won't hear Sheri's perspective on life anymore. Her candor and wit even in the toughest times were inspiring. I looked back to see what she last wrote in this blog, and she said, "The rad onc asked me how I was so tough. I said that I have a tough God. And I definitely do. Prayers would be awesome." Sheri's immense faith and concern for all who followed her story meant so much to me. We do have a tough God, and prayers are awesome. I pray for you all as you navigate this tremendous loss, and I thank Sheri so deeply for sharing her life with us all. Reese and Eli are living testaments to her beauty and formidable spirit.

  66. I am deeply saddened by Sheri's death. I didn't know her long, but in the few hours we spent together I felt as though I'd found a true friend. We shared stories of breastfeeding, of our families, and of cancer. I will share her memory - the stories she told me of her battle with this horrible disease and of the love and support she found in her family and friends - with the patient and scientific communities with whom I work. Sheri was an inspiration, and I feel very fortunate that our paths crossed when they did.

    Much love to you all,
